Coach Laing is a 1987 graduate of Hernando HS and a 1992 graduate of the University of Central Florida. While at HHS Coach Laing was a member of the Boys Basketball, Baseball, and Golf teams. During his time at UCF, he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, a 2-year member of the UCF Orientation team, and in 1990 was elected Student Government President.

Upon returning to HHS Coach Laing was the Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach. After two tenures as head coach, Coach Laing is the all-time wins holder at HHS and his teams have the most playoff appearances. Coach Laing has been the Associate Head Coach for Baseball for 30 years and holds the record for most wins as head JV Coach. He has also been selected twice as the FACA Assistant Coach of the year. Additionally, Coach Laing has been an assistant for HHS Varsity Football.

Coach Laing is married to Natalie Laing. All three children, Rebecca, Julia, and Jordan have graduated from HHS.
